Shed as a VPS
Most of what people rent a VPS for is one machine they can log into that does not forget. Shed gives you that, with the parts you would otherwise spend an evening on already done: a domain, a certificate, and a way to let someone else in.
One machine, yours
You are root. Install what you want, run what you want, leave it running. There is no build system to satisfy and no manifest to keep current: a machine runs what you put on it.
It arrives with a domain and HTTPS, so the thing you start is reachable without a certificate to renew or a proxy to configure.
It keeps its disk
A durable machine holds its filesystem. Come back in a month and the database, the logs and the half-finished experiment are all where you left them.
That is the difference between this and a container that restarts clean. Nothing here expects you to rebuild state on boot.
One price a size
A vCPU is $7.50 a month with its 2 GB of memory and 25 GB of disk, on any plan. Personal's $15 runs a 2 vCPU machine all month.
There is no separate charge for the address, the certificate or SSH, so the price of the box is the price.
Machines you would make
box: your own machine, always onminecraft: a game server for a few friendsnotes: a database only you can reach
